Town Council discussed the Mobile Food Vendor policies at its October Work Session and Regular Meeting one year after the adoption in 2016 and again at the November 2017 Work Session.
The 2016 policies were adopted with the concerns of the "brick-and-mortar" restaurants in mind, and therefore mobile food vendor operations were excluded as a permitted use in the Commercial and Central Business District zoning districts. However, these are the areas where mobile food vendors have the most market access and opportunity for success.
The initial recommendation from the October discussion was to add Eva Walker Park as a designated site within the PSP zone. At its November work session, Council deferred action until staff could reconvene the stakeholder group for input. In February, Council recommended that staff incorporate flexibility in the application process. The MFV permit fee was waived for applicants for the 2018 season.
The August 16th memo from Brandie Schaeffer, attached below, provides a recommendation of proposed revisions to increase availability and opportunity for Mobile Food Vendor operations.
